Opened in 2024, Perth Museum is the principal art gallery and exhibition space of one of Scotland’s three historic capitals. Its collections are extensive and they include stones significant to Scotland and Scotland history. These stones — which range from Pictish stones to the newly-returned Stone of Destiny, on which Scotland’s kings were crowned — are at the centre of the museum’s exhibition space and Tangent’s visual identity system.
Considering these stones as artefacts, worn and weathered, was key to the direction of the typeface. Authoritative, with a warm interplay of sharp and worn angles, Carnyx is named after a type of Celtic trumpet and used throughout the museum and its communications.
